Missing some events

I have a logitech cam pointed at my driveway and it is set for best highest sensitivity preset and I am missing some events. Things like cars driving by it picks up fine, but for people walking up to the driveway or in the grass I don't pick it up.
Is there an easy setting(s) to get it more sensitive without going into the how and why of the algorithms?
The cam is divided into two zones: the top half is set at fast medium because it is the roadway, the bottom half is set for best highest (this is the one I am referring to above.) The cam is 640x480. 1.24.1, ubuntu 9.10, dual core amd 2.6 ghz, 4gb ram, 3 other cameras running, .3 load constant.
