I think I did this wrong.

So it's been so very long since I've used Linux, approximately four years. Have it at work, since I own a store, and am trying to set up ZoneMinder for my benefit and that of my father, however I seem to have a problem.

I have NC1200 cameras not purchased from GadSpot (NC1200-L10 to be precise, seemingly from China) and cannot get them to work with ZoneMinder.

In fact, I can't get anything to work with ZoneMinder at all.

I simply return a black screen when I try to view the camera on ZoneMinder, be it with my generic WebCam or the NC1200-10L. However, using vlc -f --video-on-top http://user:pass@camip:8081/cgi-bin/Getimg.cgi?motion=1 I can play full screen, 640x480 video. I can log into the camera with my windows machines, and can see the camera with the generic Video Camera software that I have for windows.

I am wondering... where do I start troubleshooting for this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Zone minder does this with mjpeg does that url give you a mjpeg feed. If it gives you a moeg4 feed it still may work but it a little bit harder to get working.

try looking at zmc and zma logs under /var/log

Also if you install zm on a dedicated zm system try this live cd.

Also try setting your shared memory

Others with your cam

Yes, it's an mjpeg feed. Is that unfortunately not supported by ZoneMinder, or did I just set it up wrong? I tried testing ZoneMinder with my webcam (which I got working with xawtv) and the webcam does not work with ZoneMinder either, and I do not think that should be an mjpeg feed.

Also, upon closer inspection, I do not appear to have any ZM logs in /var/logs or /tmp that are zmc.log or zma.log. /tmp has a zmdc.log. This is leading me to believe I have installed this wrong somehow... with my apt-get. Somehow.

Running Linux Mint "Helena", ZoneMinder 1.24.1 here.
