Newbie trigger question

Hello. Let me first say I don't even have a Linux box built. I'm in the evaluation of what to do phase, and I'm trying to research costs etc.

My old survellience system has 4 cameras, but the motion detection is horrible as any cloud shadow triggers it. I am discarding the DVR and keeping the cameras.

A friend has recommended ZonMinder which brought me to this forum.

Looking at the documentation, it is possible to trigger a monitor (I assume it means to record the camera?) via an X10 device.

Can someone tell me
A) What device I use on the PC side to interface X10 to PC?
B) Which X10 motion detection device I should use to trigger monitor?

I want to build my PC with a low power mini ITX form factor, so preferably a USB device would be used.

Thanks.
Jeff

A good starter card from ebay
also I recommend using the ZMarch cd as it's setup and ready to go.

I was actually considering this, to stick with USB. There are some Linux drivers for it as well.

But my concern at this point is how to trigger the recording of a camera based on an actual motion/PIR sensor and not the change on the camera.

Thanks.

Most if not all usb capture devices have issues. More than 1 might not work too easy to remove not reliable.

Very few will help you with that card if it works at all.

also there is bluecherry but there a little more expansive than ebay but they have good suport.

Hi. I haven't gotten any answers to the original question regarding which recommended hardware can I use to capture an X10 motion detector activity to have the monitor recorded.

Does anyone have any experience with this hardware to do that kind of activity?

It did seem too good to be true. I'll stick with the PCI route. Although that would limit my cameras unless there is a slicker solution out there.

I have reposted this in the hardware section. Please do not post replies in this thread.

It can be found here.
