ZoneMinder Start error = sh: -c: line 0: syntax error

I have been using zoneminder for a couple of months now and now all of a sudden when it starts I am getting the following error.
service zm start
Starting ZoneMinder: sh: -c: line 0: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
sh: -c: line 0: `sudo -u apache /usr/local/bin/zmdc.pl start zmc -d /dev/video<?>'
[FAILED]
I see my capture card being installed as video0 in dmesg:
bttv0: registered device video0
Is this erroring out because of the question mark in the device path on start up? If so why is zoneminder having a problem identifying it? Thanks!
