Serial I/O port board to control trigger?

I'm considering either using an Insteon home controller with motion detectors as a trigger, or using regular wired motion detectors to trigger an input on a serial I/O board such as:

Question is, will I be able to monitor a port and or Insteon device to turn on a trigger?
My evaluation of the two options will be moot if I find out that one of them wouldn't work with ZM.
Thoughts?
