Hello
I have used Zoneminder in the past for smaller installation with just 4 IP Axis cameras.
I am now building a replacement recorder for a proprietary Dedicated Micros BX2 device. It currently has 8 cameras plugged in via BNC connectors, planning on expanding this to 16 cameras.
I was planning on getting a dual or quad core system around 3Ghz with around 4GB RAM and 2TB hard drive space at speeds of 10000Rpm.
Would you recommend a striped RAID array to increase speeds of writing to disk or does experience show this is not too relevant?
Gentoo Linux and whatever the latest stable Zoneminder at time of installation is shall be installed.
Will not be using any IP cameras initially but likely in future. What capture card would you recommend with 16 BNC inputs and where do you recommend purchasing in the UK? I have looked at the Bluecherry site but that is in US.
Thanks
J

Update
Just to let you know:
I got a card from http://www.camsecure.co.uk in the end.
£60ish for an "8 Channel 240 FPS Zoneminder Compatible Capture Card using the Connexant 878A Chip". Installation was a breeze as the module options were provided with a detailed guide aimed at Ubuntu but still easy on my Gentoo system.
Delivered next day, system now up and running. I would recommend these folks.
