Webinterface cams b/w only, but videos are in color???

High!
with a lot of reading here in the forum and in the wiki I have a perfectly running ZoneMinder-1.24.2-5.1 on OpenSuSE 11.2 and a BT878 card. Two cams are connected to the card. So far perfect.
The only think I do not understand:
ZM's webinterface shows both cameras in b/w only. When exporting an event or when I look at the daily video, I generate with a selfmade script, the videos are in color!?!? So why does ZM show the picture in b/w only??
So it seems that only the zm webinterface produces this effect. All I tried with the cams and other tools show me a color picture (xawtv etc...), and even the exports from ZM are in color, so it does not seem that there is a hardware or setup problem.
By the way:
Is anyone interested in a short HOWTO, what I had todo to get ZM running on OpenSuSE? I used the rpm from Buildservice, but there was still enough todo to make ZM running.
