I want to know how to completely optimize Zoneminder based off of a 150G hdd. I have seen cheap DVR systems that have 500gig hdd's and can record for months. I can even get a week before this systems fills up the 150g hdd and takes days just to purge the old stuff on zoneminder. Why does it take so long to purge records in zoneminder using the Filter "Purgewhennfull"? I am really confused?

what about in the config areas of zoneminder. My client has a celeron 2.5G. 4G RAM, 320G HDD that I upgraded from what he had before and PV149 BT878 DVR (bluecherry) card for 6 cameras. The previous version was 1.23x and it ran like garbage and wouldnt be able to hold more that a couple days worth of jpegs. I want this puppy to record for weeks. It originally had a 120G hdd and it was enough for just couple of days of recording.

depending on how much motion there is the motion events can help reduce disk usage assuming your using record or mocord. but as for me hard drives are so cheap now its a mute point.

i have 5 axis cams that run 1 month on record but almost 6 on motion record.

1.5tb of hard disk

I only allocated 250G for recording. So if you are getting 6 months on motion using 1.5T hdd then I will only get about a month. I need to optimize this box as best possible or just get a huge drive but knowing how to optimize this is key. any other suggestions?

try turning fps down to 3-5 and jpeg compression to 70-80 still should look ok.
