Hi, i got the 1.23.3 installed finally !!
Tryed to install 1.24.x but it wont compile it, and the given errors aren't here in forum to find.
so im happy, it works, BUT:
ZM doesnt same Videos at all.
It wasting my Harddrives with pictures. even if its on Motioncapture Record.
Normaly, if Motion-Capturing is activated, the Software should record only if anything on the Area within the Cam is moving.
If there is nothing moving, the Software must not recordy anything.
But it keeps making pictures.
The other Thing is, ZM doesnt make any Videos.
Only if i do export a Vid to drive to download.
This is not really in my mind, what a Security-system should do.
The Pictures uses a lot more Space, than a Mpeg-Movie or an AVI-file.
I'll save the Pics with 100% Quality, because, if the compression is too hight, the Pics are smooth, and its impossible to recognize anything like an Drive-Plate or an Face.
Even it makes "events" if nothing happens within the Cam-Area.
Does ZM delete this whole bunch of Pictures on some time ?
Is it possible to record only on a "alarm" ?
Is it possible to change the sensitivity of motionrecord? (with examples, because the Doc's are not very helpful in details)
If i try to view realtime, (nph-zms?mode=single&monitor=2&scale=100&rand=1273016461) i get an white picture / empty picture, and nothing can be viewed.
Any Idea, why ?
is there ANY way, to install the latest version of ZM without recompiling, because, zthis wont work for me, it says, any of the Files in ZM-TGZ is not ok.
and it does nothinh, except the webinterface works, but thatsit.
So, hopefully, someone can answer all my questions to my complete satisfaction.
Ah, one point:
i was looking for an recordsoftware for linux, which can record one or more cameras only on motion. so i tripped over ZoneMinder.
So, im sorry, for my bad english, but its late, and i was testing the whole evening with ZM.

As far as motion set camera to modetect to get it to record only motion and/or adjust your zones.
Jpegs are a lossLESS compression
Mpegs are a lossey compression
meaning jpegs are bigger but they maintain the original image better.
also i just fixed it but its /dev/video1 not /dev/vbi1
it also appears your cgi-bin path is set incorrectly.
or its not being open as a cgi but insted plain txt/bin
