Logitech Webcam C250 Fail

I have a working install of zoneminder on mint 9/ubuntu 10
I have a Logitech webcam c250 and i cant seem to add the monitor
the source is red and there is no picture, if i try to probe i get "Unable to probe local cameras, status is '255'"
What am i doing wrong and how can i fix it?
