cannot access remote webcam

I previously had a usb webcam attached to a winxp machine running yawcam. Everything worked fine with that setup. I decided to setup zoneminder on a separate box running fedora 12 x64. Zoneminder is setup as far as I can see fine using the package. However, I cannot seem to get an image that is being streamed from the yawcam powered webcam. The stream is still working fine via firefox.
The source is red and I see that the message log is giving errors. I increase shmall & shmmax to no avail.
The errors are: INF [starting capture]
err [unrecognized content type 'text/html']
err [failed to capture image from .....]
err [can't get shared memory id '7a6d0002' , no such file or directory].
I'm guessing this is happening because it can't access the stream?
Is anyone using such a setup (windows usb cam streaming to zoneminder)?
I will attempt to temporarily move the usb webcam to the fedora box to see if its a problem with the zoneminder install, but I'm not sure the webcam will work under linux.
