Alarm won't turn off

After an entire week of trying to get ZM to work and see my USB camera I've finally got it working.
I am setting this up to monitor my puppy for a couple of weeks. I'd like to just use the motion detection so my HD doesn't fill up as quickly. The problem is that once it senses motion and triggers an alarm, the alarm doesn't go off. It stays recording indfinitely.
What can I change so that it turns off once there is no motion in the picture?

Any ideas?
I've gone through all of the zone presets with no luck. I'm not sure that the cause of the alarm staying on is because of the zone settings though.
I've had Linux Mint on my spare laptop for a year and a half now so I'm not a brand new Linux user, but I'm extremely new to anymore more advanced than regular usage of the OS. I managed to get ZM installed, my USB camera working, and the shared memory settings changed so that I can view 640x480 all without having to ask any questions. But I haven't been able to Google and research my way through this alarm problem.
Would it help if I provided any further information? If so, let me know what is needed.
I've tried this with modect and mocord. Sometimes, it will immediately go into an alarm when I enable the alarms, even with zero motion in view. As stated above, I've initially set this up to monitor my puppy (whom has destroyed my kitchen floor) so that I can try to identify why/when he is getting bored and destructive. I don't need to record him sleeping or 3 hours. That's why I'm trying to set up some sort of motion recording.
Eventually, however, I would like to direct the camera away from my dog and start monitoring my sliding glass door for intruders. Again, I would be best served only recording motion with this. I'd really appreciate any help with this as I've spent many many hours dedicated to ZM and it would be really great if I could finally get it set up correctly once and for all.
