ZM on Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop

Post by slug »

Newbe here, to everything. So, please forgive me if I'm not very clear. Bought some hardware off the net and assembled the system. Followed the comprehensive step-by-step installation guide in the wiki. Everything appeared to go smoothly. (best install guide I've seen, cudos to the author). Unfortunately, no step numbers so I'll have to describe my issue.

Installed the XAWTV and loaded the component with the "sudo xawtv -c /dev/video0 -q -v" command. The camera window came up just fine. After that, the instructions have me start zm, then load zmu for video0. When I go into zm and try to configure monitors, I can't see anything on the video monitor screen.

The instructions appeared to cover everything, but I know it can't cover all flavors of equipment. So, I'm guessing my problem is with one of the config files that are edited.

My camera is on this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &viewitem=

My card is on this link http://www.ipmart.com/main/product/Kodi ... prod=35420

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You must see in the hardware wiki to modprobe your kodicom card!

Thanks. Went back and verified that I did that step. That is where I create the /options file correct? My /etc/modprobe.d/options file has the following lines:

alias char-major-81 bttv
options bttv gbuffers=16 card=0 tuner=4 radio=1

Does this look correct? When I do the zmu utility, it says that my card is Generic, so I selected 0. I'm not sure about the tuner=4 setting. I know it's an 8 chip card, but as I've said, the documentation doesn't cover all cards. Maybe I should look at getting a better card?
