I have found that Ubuntu 10.10 works quite well for installing ZM from its package manager.
I haven't tried using ZM on Fedora or any other distro lately.

You can find my setup script that I've written for Ubuntu 10.10 here: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... 5280#65280
Please just make sure that your Ubuntu is up to date before using my script :)

Fedora 12 has worked perfectly for me from package, just follow the the wiki (the easy way) or search up "flowers for candy" post by hiredguntech. With Fedora 14 using the libjpeg-turbo I'll be rebuilding three boxes and post any differences to the wiki
