Orbit and QuickCam Pro 4000

Need some help in getting my Orbit Cam and QuickCam Pro 4000 working under zoneminder correctly. I'm was able to get both cams working using xawtv, however under zoneminder the picture seems to have only 4 colors or so.
When I perform the following "zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v" or "zmud -d /dev/video1 -q -v", I receive the following error message.
"Error, failed to query crop capabilities /dev/video(x): Invalid argument" where (x) is the video device.
However, if I append another switch (i.e. -V1) as in "zmu -d /dev/video(x) -q -v -V1" I am able to query both cams settings. Which display a Palette setting of "YUV 4:2:0 Plannar".
Under Zonemider I've tried every combination of palette but the picture only comes out when using Video For Linux 2 and a Palette set to "YUV420" however the picture only has 4 colors or so and is really bad. If I try any other setting for Palette the cams stop working as they show up in red in zoneminder or there is no light on the cam which usually indicates if its activated. I've modified the shared memory value quite a bit which resolved an earlier problem.
One cam is a QuickCam Pro 4000, and the other is a QuickCam Orbit Spere MP and as I said both work find under any other application (i.e. CamStream, xawtv, etc...)

From the info above I thought I should be using Video For Linux 1 with YUV420P but that doesn't work for me as zoneminder indicates the source device in red an no picture.
Any help would be much appreciated. and I'm running Fedora 13.
