EDIT - Solved

Why is it that every time I detail a question to the forum I fix it myself ? :-)

There was actually nothing wrong with my set up - but I was forcing an alarm while in monitor mode - thinking it would generate an event anyway. It doesn't !

You have to be in modetect mode to force an alarm which is actually recorded !

So I've just installed ZM on a SSD with a 500GB external HD for events storage etc.

I have the HD mounted ok using fstab and followed this post to install and set permissions etc (last post in thread)

http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... hard+drive

I didn't copy over any events as there weren't any.

I forced an event to occur and expected to see it in the console - but no dice.

I can see the folders (images, events, temp) ok thru apache but they have no content.

Seems as though ZM is storing the images elsewhere or doesn't have the correct permissions ?

usr/share/zoneminder has links pointing to /var/cache/zoneminder for events, images and temp - so I guess that's ok ?

I have tried setting the path set in zm options to either

/var/cache/zoneminder/events

or

/events

Re-starting each time, but no luck again. Console says "Disk 1%" so I guess it's looking at the right location.

Any ideas / suggestions ?

FYI - this is the process I recently used to install a HD and it worked fine.
