So Im setting up some IP cameras at my shop and I cant decide if I should locate the pc at the shop on the local network or at my home. What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Local or you will not have the quality. If it remote and the cameras will drag down your connection for the other pcs on the network as well.

It's best for security to put the server elsewhere, so if it gets torched or trashed you have some evidence.

However, two things to consider which often prevent this from working well.

1. Reliability of remote networks. Not as good as local wired networks.

2. Bandwidth. This will restrict the quality, fps and image size you can shift. You need enough bandwidth, plus overhead to compensate for ISP/network slowdowns, and if you're sharing the conn with anything else, how will it affect things?

Ok, I lied - some other considerations: Cost of bandwidth if you're on a metered supply. Also analogue cameras will need something to convert them to ip first.
