DEbian Lenny + Gnome + Video

I noticed in the GUI Video prefs there is an option to grab video from TV cards and video devices…
Is this useable ?
Can I grab video from te 8 Port Bttv card and by by pass ZM so we can stream video straight to the monitor ?
That would be useful on the ZM server so we could attach a monitor to view feeds directly…
Or am I missing something here….
