Hi

i'm starting to build my home surveillance system and i'm pretty confused which way to go.
IP cameras seems easier but cost more and i'm not sure there is a standard in their transmission ( some use RSTP)

i need something like 4-5 cameras , few should be in the second floor of the house (i have network there but also cabled)

if going RF i thought maybe embed the RF signal to the cables so i would not put another set of cables in the home.
IP seems more vulnerable to me (and less stable)

what would you recommend me to do?

General the RF camers are going to be far worse than the ip as far as security as well as stability. It relly quite easy to get a stable wifi setup with ip cameras it a little research and understanding.

First off you need to get a decent grade router/access point. A cisco AP or even a dd-wrt router will work great. Second you have to under stand the wifi channles overlap. Ex: ch1 run in the same frequency as 2 3. Likewise channle 6 runs between 4 - 8 channles . So you need 2 AccesPoints one to run you cameras and one for you pcs and the crucial thing is they must run on non overlapping channels.

They ip camers will be perfectly stable.

1. will i be able to stream audio + video to my iphone with eyeZM app
2. i'm worried about the bandwidth that those IP cams might take since they will be streaming constantly to ZM even when no one is watching.
