I'm new to zoneminder and I'm trying to work out a basic set up of two local cameras, one usb and one through a capture card.

My system is running Mint 10 and I installed zoneminder from the package manager. After the install I did the switch of conf files for apache and restarted it. Next to be safe I did chmod 777 on my /dev/video* devices.

When I go to look at a camera in zoneminder I get the pop up to start viewing and it flickers for a moment and comes up blank. In /temp/zmdc.log I'm getting this entry:
03/09/11 20:44:25.033004 zmdc[2968].INF [Starting pending process, zmc -d /dev/video0]
03/09/11 20:44:25.034961 zmdc[2968].INF ['zmc -d /dev/video0' starting at 11/03/09 20:44:25, pid = 3268]
03/09/11 20:44:25.150690 zmdc[2968].ERR ['zmc -d /dev/video0' exited abnormally, exit status 6]

At one point in time I could get both cameras working through vlc, xawtv, and guvcview but now only guvciew works.

More info to come and thanks in advance.

Maybe there will be something more useful if you enable the expanded logging:

Do Options>Debug, and then enable EXTRA_DEBUG, add _zmc to EXTRA_DEBUG_TARGET, and change EXTRA_DEBUG_LEVEL to 6.

I accidentally had invalid dimensions set for one of my zones, which was causing a similar error. Nothing too useful in the basic logs, but once I turned on the extended logging, it told me very clearly what steps it was doing and what happened when it broke.

Hi, please run this command and paste the output. I'm actually interested in the error code and not the error message that you get with the verbose parameter.

Code: Select all

zmu -d /dev/video0 -q
