server very slow

I've zoneminder 1.24.2 with ubuntu 10.04 server on mini-itx pc.
Wen zm start the server is very, very slow.
I've a 4 input card with 4 analogic camera.
Cpu and memory used aren't large but web browser is very bad.
Any idea?

top will show you what process is eating the CPU...

If is zm you can compare the ID process with

ps -ef|grep zm
