Hello forum, I have a Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 on a Debian Squeeze system:

On the setting I don't know how to config it (format, palette...), this is what I get on the web:

I've same cause.

Ms LifeCam Vx-1000 is working from the other programs.
cheese, camorama ...

but is not working from Zoneminder.
Maybe Zoneminder is not support to LifeCam Vx-1000.

I'm running a lifecam vx-1000 just fine on Ubuntu 12.04

But you can't run it as local and /dev/video*

You need to use mjpg-streamer.

I followed this guide and it worked like a charm

....... well, due to board settings, I guess I can't post links to other web sites; so you'll have to google for the link.
