There are commercial systems for monitoring elderly people living alone that track and memorize normal movement patterns around the house. They can issue alerts when abnormal movement patterns occur or when normal movements fail to occur. Sort of an "I've fallen and can't get up" system that can alert even if they can't press the panic button.
Does anyone know of any low cost or preferably open source programs to address similar concerns?

Re: Elderly Parent Monitor
I think the opencv project is what your looking for used to track diffrent movements like say falling down.
