Hello

I've just bought a 4 Channel H.264 DVR for a home setup.

The problem is that the .264 file format can only be used with the DVR. I can not play the files on my PC no matter what software I throw at it.



I am using Windows 7 and I've tried:

Handbrake
VLC
Classic Player
WMP
FFdshow

Is it possible to replace the DVR operating system with ZoneAlarm?

If it is possible I would very much appreciate advice on how to achieve this.

Without knowing model number, make or anything about it - this is a pure guess and is based solely on the assumption your dvr is based on a generic pc.

If you can install linux of some flavour on there (debian, ubuntu would be my choices) then yes, should be possible. Obviously if there's no space for an internal card you won't be able to run analogue cameras, but ip and usb should be doable.

Here's my setup


Its a CnM Secure H.264 4 channel Digital Video Recorder.

The problem is that the setup records to .264 and I can not find any way to read the file format or even convert it to something useful like H.265.

The supplied software won't work on my PC because the DVR hard drive is not detectable on the PC, so it shuts down the facility to view playback. What's the point of backing up video footage to a USB drive if you can't view it anywhere but the DVR player?
