ZM Console - added monitor shows no image

Post by cloaked »

Hi there,

I've installed ZoneMinder following the steps from the Ubuntu Server 11.04 guide (http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... _Cambozola).
Installation seems to have completed fine but now when I add a monitor it shows no image.
I've searched the forum, wiki and google and only found information about memory issues and other things that couldn't solve my problem.
I'm using ethernet cameras (1 Axis 216FD and 2 Axis M1104). I've trying several different settings when adding them (HTTP, RSTP, lower resolutions, max frames,..) but nothing seems to work. I only get a blank space with a small square in the middle where the picture should be playing.
I've also tried accessing ZM Console both with Safari and Firefox, but it's the same result.

Please, any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

lets start simple ;

if you log in directly to one of your IP cams if possible, what path do you have in your browser at the moment you watch the stream ?

I have the following URL: 172.20.5.2/view/viewer_index.shtml?id=541

But now I don't think the problem is on the monitor settings..
This weekend I've tried out the ZoneMinder Virtual Appliance by Viktor Petersson, available on the Downloads section, which consists of an installation of ZM 1.24.2 on a virtual machine of Ubuntu 10.04. After loading it, I added one of my cameras using the "Axis IP, 320x240, mpjpeg, max 5 fps", changed the USER:PASS@IP accordingly and it worked right away... it loaded the java applet and immediately started streaming image (so I guess it's using cambozola).

I got back to my initial installation of ZM 1.24.4 with Ubuntu Server 11.04, made sure the settings of the cameras were the same, and it doesn't work. It doesn't seem to be loading the java applet.

Cambozola should be only loaded if you using a web browser that doesn't support mjpeg streaming, e.g. Internet explorer and recent versions of Opera.
For Firefox, Safari and Chrome cambozola should not load.
What do you see in the system log?

I've tried both with Safari 5.0.5 and Firefox 3.6.13 on Mac.
I've just checked /var/log/syslog and when I open the Cam popup, the following gets dumped to the log:

Jun 20 15:05:21 zm-srv zma_m10[1348]: WAR [Waiting for capture daemon]
Jun 20 15:05:27 zm-srv zma_m10[1348]: last message repeated 5 times

Jun 20 15:05:49 zm-srv zms[15103]: ERR [Unable to authenticate user]

Jun 20 15:05:50 zm-srv zma_m10[1348]: WAR [Waiting for capture daemon]

Another thing that I noticed is that, even though it isn't showing live feed, it is catching motion events. When I enter an event it also doesn't show the playback but if I enter the list of frame and open one, it shows that picture correctly.

Hi guys, just an update on my situation:

Analyzing the logs on /tmp/zm/ I noticed a bunch of error messages about authentication.
I changed the option AUTH_RELAY (Method used to relay authentication information) to "none" instead of "hashed" and now it shows the live feed.
Now I just have to figure out why it isn't working with authentication (and what's the consequences by not using).
I'll keep looking around... but let me know if you have any thoughts.
Thanks!
