Image problems - Please help!!

Hi all,
I have spent a lot of time trying to setup ZM and I am almost there apart from the webcam images misbehaving.
I am using the microsoft lifecam VX 6000
and the Philips ToUcam Pro
I setup all possible combinations in the palette and I still get either blank, non-functioning images or of the type attached below. I know I am getting close because when I move in front of the camera the image moves too, it's just that it is not proper as you can see.
I search the specs of both cameras and ToUCam Pro is a YUV420. I am not sure what the Microsoft camera is using, but still, as I said, I tried almost all combos.
Any suggestions in how to get it to work? How to fix it? When I try to capture images with streamer or xawtv it works fine which is very puzzling.
...and when I run:
sudo zmu -d /dev/video1 -q -v -V1
I get:
Video Device: /dev/video1
