Ubuntu 11.04 server 32bit and the Wiki

I'm using the Wiki to try and install 1.25.0 on a 32bit (old P4) system following the "Ubuntu Server 11.04 64-bit with ZoneMinder 1.25.0 Preview, FFmpeg, libjpeg-turbo, Webmin, Cambozola" in the Wiki. All seems to go well (I swap out the #Install libjpeg-turbo (AMD64)# with a 32bit version) untill i try to install FFmpeg. I have tried both versions of FFmpeg (git and 0.8.5) and get errors with "--enable-libx264" does not exist and all sorts of errors and warnings during the make process of FFmpeg.
The install Zoneminder part has a few problems (perhaps caused by the FFmpeg issues) but, if I continue to the end of the Wiki, I can get ZM to start up, set cameras, record events, etc.
My concerns are:
1. Am I actually getting the best from this install?
2. What method of stream type uses the least amount of bandwidth over LAN?
3. What method of stream gives the best picture quality?
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks.
