404: URL not detected

It appears that this error appears more than often.I installed zoneminder following these instructions.
It appears that nothing gets installed in /var/www/, hence there is no /var/html/zm folder, so the 404 should not surprise. Moving the 'www' folder to the var/www does not do anything either...
I tried to uninstall, I did not have any LAMPP installed or what not. Should I install Ubuntu 10.04 instead of 11.1 I used to get it running?
