So is this fit for production?

Post by Red Squirrel »

I've been wanting to setup cameras around my property, but so far, I'm not sure if ZM is really fit for production.

1: If a camera is unplugged, it does not auto recover. It will just start to crap out, and require to restart both apache and zoneminder

2: I left a single camera overnight, and it just randomly stopped working, it's just black now. It seems to stall after some time. If I restart the services it works again.

Is it better to just go with RCA cameras and a dedicated DVR?

I think you'll find the problem is with the camera stream being interupted. Bump debug up and check the logs for answers.

Yeah I was purposely interrupting it as a test (well the first time, not sure about the second). But why is it that it does not automatically try to reconnect? If I went straight to the camera's interface it only took a few seconds to start showing the image again so I know it's not the camera.

I guess in a real world situation I'd have it all on a big UPS so I would not have to worry about interruptions, but still, just nice if they'd auto reestablish themselves.

I've had it hooked up for a few days now and so far so good, it stayed up.

Have a look at your options::system tab; that's where auto reconnect is controlled. Hover or click on question marks for value discriptions.
