Works ok until changed from Monitor to Mocord

First off, I want to say that I'm somewhat of a linux n00b, and don't wish to waste any ones time, so thank you in advance for all of the posts I have read, and the help I may receive! I'm running Mint 11 x64, and installed zm from apt-get. Set it all up, added my bt878 capture card composite connection to it, and although I couldn't get it to work in RGB24, it would work in Grey just fine. I then defined a zone, taking up less than 50% of the view, which was ok. Then when I switched from Monitor to Mocord, the device turns red, and nothing I do whatsoever from that point forward will get the camera working again. I've also wiped the drive and did a clean install, and had the same exact problem as the first go-around.

I am thinking perhaps I would have better luck downloading from here, compiling and installing from source, and doing the whole install process manually, although I am not sure the best way to go about clearing this install out to do so, nor am I sure if that is the best way to go about things. I don't want to wipe and reinstall the OS either, but I will leave that option on the table as a last resort.

I have looked around on here and google, and haven't been able to find any answers to my problem, I'm good at following directions, and I can copy and paste the output of commands if that would help, I'm sure the debug may have some answers, but I'm not quite there yet in terms of interpreting what could be wrong from it. Just tell me what to do! =)

Cam looks great in xawtv! To clarify, I am using a cheap-o security cam, plugged into my composite input on my Aver analog capture card... I do have a D-Link IP cam I can dig out of storage and hook up for testing, but I'm not sure that's needed. All I want is to be able to view the camera from my computer, and to use motion detection to record events so they can be played back later. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction!

Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!
