Not Saving Images

This should be simple but I've been researchingfor 2 days and can't find a solution.

distro - mint 12
version 1.24.4
me - newbie (apologies in advance)

Problem - I have zm up and running and I have one camera working. i can see the images when i bring up the monitor. Problem is that nothing is recording. If i walk away the only thing I can access is what's in the buffer. Not sure if it's a config issue in ZM or maybe an mysql issue. Any help on where to start looking is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE

I can now trigger an alarm and get the events to record but motion is still not settng off the alarm. Any advice is appreciated?
