B+W Camera Works But Colour Ones Don't

Setup:-
Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit server on dual core Atom with 4GB RAM.
Philips saa7134 4-input capture card (macro-video-dot-com/en model NV700X)
Zoneminder 1.25 from Ubuntu repos.

Old black/white camera that works: 500 x 582 pix, 380 lines.
New colour cameras that don't work:-
a) Bullet: 512 x 582 pix (PAL) 420 lines
b) Mini-cam: 752 x 582 pix (PAL) 525 lines

I don't understand the 'Input' info shown by zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v
Input 0: Name: Television, Type: Tuner
Input 1: Name: S-Video, Type: Camera
Input 2: Name: Composite 1, Type: Camera
Input 3: Name: Composite 2, Type: Camera
The card is supposed to take 4 channel of real time CCTV, 25fps per channel, why does zmu show the inputs as different?

Testing each input individually with my b+w camera I get images with the following combinations only:-
Socket 1: /dev/video0, channel 1 or 2.
Socket 2: /dev/video1, channel 1 or 2.
Socket 3: /dev/video2, channel 1 or 2.
Socket 4: /dev/video3, channel 1 or 2.

But the colour cameras won't work on any of these - mostly just black screens, sometimes grey horizontal stripes.
On channels 1 and 2 the monitor says it is capturing at 10fps which I set.
I've tried just about every likely pixel width and height, with GREY, RGB24, and YUYV.
I restarted Zoneminder after each change.
I've tried PAL and NTSC.
I've also tried changing the monitor settings: increasing the brightness just changes a black screen into a dark grey one.
The other settings don't seem to have any effect.
All 3 cameras are 12V tested with the same regulated PSU (1A).

The colour cameras are brand new (from a long established UK supplier). I haven't got anything else to test them with so its possible they could both be faulty, but it seems unlikely. Please tell me I've missed some essential config!
