Unable to run 3 camera's at the same time

I'm trying to set up a system with 3 usb capture devices.
I can always get 2 devices to work, but a third fails.

It doesn't matter if I'm using them on a small or big resolution (320x288 versus 720x576)
Only 2 will work

I have already set the shmmax and shmall values, to very generous settings.
(kernel.shmall = 1536870912 & kernel.shmmax = 3036870912)

I'm using the zoneminder version found in the ubuntu 12.04 repository, which is 1.25.
