if you haven't found the solution yet, you have to,
stop ZM
copy the events dir to the location you want and then add or replace a symlink
to that location. it really depends on what distro you used and how ZM
was installed. some have symlinks and some installs use a real events folder.
you may need to rename or delete the original events folder
i usually rename them in case i mess up.
the best way to find a how to is search for add hard drive for event storage

Reality check (just in case) please ...
Is it really that simple?
stop zm, copy /var/cache/zoneminder somewhere you like, ln -s /var/cache/zoneminder {favourite place}
[Your pardon, just, having been bitten by supposedly simple things in the past ... thought I would check.]

Edit:
OK, thanks to another post, got to
http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... Hard_Drive
wiki updated so that storage location takes you somewhere useful, like to the orphan article above.
Summary: ln's will get schmucked at upgrade, use fstab / mount points instead. (Per article above.)
