I have an AMD Athlon XP3000+ 1.5 g 2100 ram

Probably from 2003 or so. when I have one IP cam open and the firefox browser (plus standard ubuntu build stuff) a 640 x 480 window in ZM on mocord is pushing HTOP to 100%.

Does this sound typical - I am getting 30 frames I should add. I saw it can add MMX support but did not see enough documentation to help me implement it, but probably just due to my lack of experience.

30fps is very high - fortunately there is a lot you can do, most of it detailed in the wiki.
