Advice/Help on frame rate

I've only just got ZM to work on my system (Kubuntu 12.10). This is only a little hobby and of course to prove my point with neighbours driving up and down our little private road like rally drivers.
Now ZM works for most part and then I get stuck with the settings.
For instance on Kubuntu where would ZM store the recordings?
and what is the best frame rate to use? I'm using a cheap Logitech C270 webcam as I've got it laying around the house and my better half would not be too happy if I spend to much money on this little project.

I think i can kill two birds w/ one stone here..

The spec info on this page
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app ... ifications
shows that 30fps @ 640x480 is normal.. I'm sure you can play around from there and use it as a starting point.

just remember, if you are recording anything, the frames before & after the alarm are based on frames..
Example:
Pre Event Image Count 30
Post Event Image Count 30
This would only give you 1 second of video before/after the 'alarm' is triggered. so if something is moving fast, you may only record it being right ontop of the camera.

*Warning.. more FPS = more memory used*
you may end up dropping your FPS and upping the pre/post events.. just write down a 'good' setting so you have a fall back if everything goes all cranky.

As for location:
I have viewed my images from /usr/cache/zoneminder/ or /var/cache/Zoneminder/ if you do a find for 'events' or 'zoneminder' it should pop up where everything is..

Hope this helps :)

Hiya aelingil
thanks for the reply.
Been a great help. Will sit and play around with ZM later. WRT to available space, I've got a 1TB hdd that's got nothing on it that I'll be using

Thanks for the help
