Am reporting a successful upgrade of Ubuntu 12.04 with the "stock" ZM 1.25.0 to Ubuntu 14.04. The ZM version with 14.04 is 1.26.5.

Once that was configured and the camera running I followed the Ubuntu upgrade instructions here:

This recommends some configuration changes to the apache2.conf which did not need to be done.
When ZM is upgraded you will be prompted to accept changes to the database. I accepted the changes
After reboot, create a new symbolic link
sudo ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/zoneminder.conf
Restart Apache
/etc/init.d/apache2 force-reload
Should work! I had to "adjust" some camera settings as things are a bit different from 1.25.0 to 1.26.5. But it worked!
I should note that my try to upgrade 12.04 with ZM 1.27 failed. Will keep working on it!
