Chinese concept of P.O.E

Post by kcallis »

Is it just me or does the manufactures in China not understand the concept of POE? I bought 4 cameras that advertised as being POE cameras. When I received the cameras, I noticed a split cable with on one side had a RJ-45 connection and the other was a power injector for the power adapter. So I am required to find some power outlet in order to power my POE enabled camera. Am I missing something or has something be lost in translation?

The POE cams I have also have a power lead. That's there so you can run the camera with a POE switch or injector if that's the setup you want, or you can use a power adapter as if it wasn't POE capable. If your switch supports POE just connect the cat 5 and it should work, leave the power lead unattached.

Four of my cams have a direct line back to the POE switch, a fifth would be difficult to wire back to the switch but does have power easily accessible so it uses the power adapter. All 5 work just fine.

BTW, all five are grandstream cams.
