Hey there,

I'm starting a from scratch install and am following the following Wiki instruction:

Silly question; do I need to install mysql server first before following the steps in this wiki article? I've run through the install by following the instructions but I'm getting a cannot connect to the mysql server. If I need to install mysql, what db account do I need to setup in order for ZoneMinder to access the db? Thanks

Right at the top of the How to is:

Install Ubuntu

I strongly recommend you used the mini.iso installer as I've had some issues with 12.04-5 server CD, Install Basic Server, OpenSSH Server, and LAMP Server

LAMP will install Apache, MySQL and PHP.

If you are just learning this I recommend you yse teh latest version of Ubuntu with these instructions:

Messing around with the release in the PPA repository is for the more experienced. Yes, there are some nifty features in 1.27 and it is your call....
