I have been using Zoneminder for several years with a connection to some old analgoue cameras, intiially via a capture card and more recently via an IP conversion box. This is all very stable and works well.
I recently set-up wireless streaming camera using a Raspberry Pi but found that it was a little to unreliable over a wireless link, so decided to install and run Zoneminder directly on a Raspberry Pi (I bought the latest Pi 2) for that.
Zoneminder runs fine on the Pi 2 as a standalone server and is able to run at 720p resolution in full colour using the Pi Cam module. The load is about 60% in this config.
I still access the Pi over WiFi but obviously WiFi bandwidth does not affect recording any more.
Q) Is there a way to connect the Pi 2 Zoneminder server to my main server, without having to stream the video?
Ideally I'd like to be able to see the Pi 2 as another camera in my existing server, without the server having to actually process the video.
I welcome any suggestions or questions.
