how to add brightness in the source paths?

im using 1.28 on a 1.6 intel dual-core lappy with stk60 (easycap) dvr running a swan 400 line ir cam with no cut filter and only one of the three ir rings working... non-the less it makes a good possum cam...
the image is pretty crappy, dark...
I would like to brighten the image
Ive got it running under Libvlc
there is no "settings" link that comes up in live view...
Ive tried adding some strings Brightness=5 to the Source and Option (?) slots
Ive tried stopping zm, streaming or converting vlc with good image settings, then restarting vlc
muchly appreciated any help to where's i am going not right??
