Zoneminder Motion Events

As a new user of this software, I'm trying to understand "events". My current camera setup (Samsung snh-P6410BN) saves motion detected events to an sd card. I can view them from a smart phone or web viewer. I was assuming that Zoneminder would follow the same sort of scenario. I expected to see "events" listed when motion was detected. As yet, all I see is the live feed. I have the software set for motion detect. Is there some further configuration I must follow? A sensitivity setting perhaps? I read about setting up zones, but, it appeared that I could use the default zone. Also, I would assume that as long as my pc is running, it should detect and record motion. Is this not correct?

Do you have the monitor "Function" set to Modect, Record or Mocord? If not ZM will not record anything.

I stand corrected. I thought I was not receiving events when in fact I was. However, I don't seem to be receiving ALL events. There are times when I know there has been motion in front of the camera, but, there is no record of the event. This does not happen for all events.

Thanks. I had already read that and assumed that since...
the default zone is the full area captured by the monitor
that meant that all motion within the "default zone" should be captured. I've since selected one of the "presets" to see if this improves my image capture.

Its a good idea to spend some time understanding how ZM's motion detection works. Default settings usually don't work. The link that bbunge pointed to above also has this link at the bottom which might help more https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Understandi ... or_Dummies

Bottom line, how you define sensitivity and how you partition zones largely influence when it 'catches' motion and when it misses them

Roger that. I'll read the doc further.
