I've been playing with Zoneminder since 2006. Once I got to 1.23.3 I stayed right there.
Used it for a long time, some of my friends still use it. The timeline on Zoneminder is
what keeps most people I know stuck on Zoneminder.
I got my first IP cam around 2007 and when H264 got popular I tried a few ZM versions.
1.25 did ok if you could get through it all.
Fast forward to version 1.29.0
With the work of the current developers, bbunge's pre-configured Live install CD and zmNinja you have what
people have been asking for, and more, for years. I could use a ppa or install from source, but I've been around it for years.
Now just about ANYONE could install Zoneminder in it's current state, that says a lot.
Totally free software that works VERY well with little effort.
Thanks for the hard work, Zoneminder has come a LONG WAY !
