Disk Full why

Hello
I'm trying to configure a small ubuntu server with zoneminder only.
I experimented NFS share, and linked /var/cache/zoneminder/images and /var/cache/zoneminder/events to an other server which has 4Tb mirrored drives to store there.
That was not enough as I ended up with the root partition full.
Could someone tell me what is filling the root partition and how to resolve.
