VM vs Old (5+yrs) Laptop?

I got sucked back into windows on my server. What would I be better off with VM on the server or a really old laptop that's not 64 bit? If VM any suggestions as to one that works? I tried to build one & seems there's a bug that won't let more than one cam in VMWare right now since there's a post on here about it.

Small rant as to why I'm asking:
I was going to use BlueIris since I bought that a couple years ago. Then I was told on IPCamTalk's forums ZM sucks cuz there's no audio & my 4 Samsung SmartCam HD Pro are pure garbage cuz I can't adjust the iframes or framerate. Flat out told, by an admin none the less, to go sell em on ebay & buy new cameras to get better cpu usage with BI. Was a bit of a WTF momment & now I'm hell bent on getting ZM back up & running with my windows server.
