bug in motion detection software
I think some of these bugs are attracted to the IR LEDs. There's no motion detection software short of AI that could deal effectively with this.

Re: bug in motion detection software
AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Mothra has returned!
The only software change I can think of is to determine a rough estimate of how many pixels generated that event (ZoneMinder tells you this), and then put a value slightly lower than that into the appropriate Max Area field(s) under the zone settings. The downside is that, if there are any events you do want to record, which trigger the same number of pixels then those events will get ignored.
You could also turn off the ir-led in the camera and then mount a stand alone ir light a few feet away from the camera.
