Hi, good day

We are having trouble with zoneminder stopped.

2 server, both with Ubuntu 14.04 lts, both with zoneminder 1.29.0, both stopping with similar socket errors.
Each server has 16-cores (2 x CPU AMD Opteron 4000 8-core ), 16GB RAM, 8TB disk and around 70 HD H264 cameras.

We didn't have those problems with zoneminder 1.28. Problem just started with ZM 1.29.0
We decided to upgrade because we did some test with 1.29 and we realized that 1.29 save some resources from the CPU, so CPU run more smoother.
But unfortunately Zoneminder stops suddenly.

In recent days we made the upgrade to version 1.30 , but still with error of socket and Zonemider stop .

We appreciate any help.

Here is some error that we think are involved in the issue. Here are a few error, SOCKET ERROR is definitively an issue.
You can see a large file attached with more errors.
This was not happening in ZM 1.28. It started to happen in 1.29 ans also 1.30

Socket sento errors do not always mean you have a serious problem. My production server gets them all the time but the server keeps chugging along.

Your ZM stopping could be an indication that you are running out of memory. With all those cameras your /run/shm may be full which is where you have the PATH_SWAP set to. You may want to set PATH_SWAP back to /tmp/zm to see if this helps. Lowering resolution may help the memory issue. Also check the MySQL innodb_buffer_pool_size. Better yet install and run mysqltuner and make adjustments accordingly.

PATH_MAP, PATH_SOCKS and PATH_SWAP are recommended to be run from tmpfs as RAM is faster than a hard drive. You can change all three to /tmp and see what happens and move them back to tmpfs one at a time.

MySQL innodb_buffer_pool_size is set to 8G on both servers
We have 70 monitors (on each server), each monitor configured as MODECT, ffmpeg, RTP/RTSP 640x360, 6 fps, 24 bit color. In the buffer tab we have 50,25,25,25 as default

OK got it we will run mysqltuner to see what is going on the db basement.

What is really a strange behavior it is the fact that on Zoneminder 1.28 version it was working fine and stable.

Some also advise 32-bit colour is more efficient, I forget why.

Because 32 bit uses SSE2 instruction set, which is a lot faster.
If I recall, the speed improvements require the colorspace to be a power of 2 so bit shifting could be used, rather than division, for the operations. Thus 32bit colorspace was born.

Well it would be wonderful if we had a way to make the montage view of 70 cameras with the stream 2 (mean 320x180), and when we click on any live image of any camera it would be great if it could be open (big) with the full resolution (mean stream 0 1280x720). But we do not know if is it possible on this version ZM 1.30

Hello, we set all 32bit colors, also remove the -"- from the zoneminder.conf like other posts said.

I have a similar problem. At 1.30 ZM himself became a stop.
And the log file is not conducted with me. Directory /var /log /zm absent. I tried to create it by hand, but the log files are not created. The default variable PATH_LOGS = /var /log /zm

Zoneminder can stay the night, and the rows are overwritten.

Unfortunately we still have not found the solution. Zoneminder continues to stop with no apparently reason.

Recently we upgrade the RAM memory of the server until 24 GB and we changed the parameter "vm.swappiness=30" in order to avoid Ubuntu to swap less frequently.

We have 2 similar servers, each one with 16 cores, 24 GB RAM, 1 SSD disk of 120GB for Ubuntu operating system, plus 8TB in a RAID 5 for record files.
Each server handle 70 ffmpeg HD H264 cameras.

But it stops and we do not know the reason.

That URL for rtsp://admin:admin@192.168.1.104:554/12 looks suspicious to me and the Operation now in progress part means that ffmpeg is unable to connect to the camera.

As to ZoneMinder stopping, the reason why will be in the logs... but you havn't really shown us any of the relevant logs. ZoneMinder can stop for many reasons, one of which is mysql stopping. So we need more information.

I also recommend using monit to ensure that it starts back up if it does stop.
