Axis P3215-VE Camera Glitches & ZoneMinder

Hi All,

I currently have 5 of these Axis cameras setup and I'm running ZoneMinder 1.29. So far everything works beautifully aside from false alarms being caused by what appears to be camera glitches or extreme image changes. I've tried adjusting an upper threshold on the maximum alarmed pixel area with no success. I then tried adjusting the buffer for alarm frames to a number higher than 1. Each time there is a false alarm I see only 1 alarm frame in the recorded event, but according to the ZoneMinder documentation adjusting the Alarm Frame Count should resolve this problem. The screenshots in the link below show that I am getting events with only 1 alarm frame when it should be 2 or higher. :(

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

How did you know what value to use for the maximum alarm threshold?
You should look at the statistics for the event(s) in question. It will tell you how many pixels/percent zoneminder counted as motion. Naturally, you want to set your upper threshold to be less than that.

You can also set a small preclusive zone, which should prevent the alarm from triggering if motion is detected in that zone. See the documentation.

Also note that, if the cause of the alarm is signal loss rather than motion (again see the event statistics) then zoneminder will record the event anyway.

Hi Knnniggett,

Thanks for responding to my post!

>> How did you know what value to use for the maximum alarm threshold?

It is based upon the maximum defined area of the zones that I setup. I made the maximum alarm threshold approximately 90% so that large flashes (such as lightning for the outside cameras) would not trigger an event.

I have examined another event which has two alarm frames as expected but the first alarm frame of the two has no stats. Additionally, the frames beforehand were colored whereas the two alarm frames are black and white. It almost looks like there was an extreme change in the camera lighting or the camera lost signal like you mentioned.

Have you ever seen anything like this before?
