Upgrade advice

I have Zoneminder v1.25 running on Ubuntu 13.10 x64 with two IP cameras at my home. I've left it alone because it has worked reasonably well (kudos on a great product!) and I'm not adept with Linux. But it's getting so outdated that I need to get it current while it's still operational. Should I expect the update of the O/S and Zoneminder to be relatively painless? Is there any advice for making it *more* painless?

At a minimum you should upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 which will, by default, upgrade Zoneminder to 1.26.5.
Here is a link with some upgrade instructions: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Common_Issu ... _on_Ubuntu

I no longer have upgrade instructions from Ubuntu 13.xx but I feel that things should upgrade smoothly for you. Might be a good idea to take a dump of the ZM database in MySQL just in case. You can use the backup to recreate your zoneminder settings.

Here is the install instructions for Ubuntu 14.04: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Ubuntu_Serv ... e_easy_way

Once you get Zoneminder running on 1.26.5 you can follow the instructions to upgrade to 1.30.0 if you want to.

Best of luck!

Thanks bbunge, that is helpful. I seem to recall seeing that one of the recent zm updates provided a performance boost for storing video fro IP cameras. Do I have that correct and do I need to go to v1.30 to get it?
