random crashing

I have zoneminder 1.30.4 installed on two different servers, one an older Intel Core2 Duo with a gig of ram and the other on a dual Xeon 12 core server with 128G of RAM.

Both of them have developed a random crashing problem. The zoneminder service will run for about 12 hours after a complete server reboot then die. After that I can restart the service and it will run between minutes or hours. The only longer term fix is to reboot the server which is unacceptable.

I have plenty of tmp space and etc per the tuning guides....

I've been using zoneminder for 10+ years and never had this problem before. In fact it only started on the 128g_Xeon about a month ago.

Have you checked the resources on the database server? MySQL or Mariadb? Use mysqltuner to check the innodb_buffer_pool_size and related files. Running 12 hours the crashing seems like the time the system runs before doing an event purge which could tax the database server.

If you are having issues with MySQL may I recommend Mariadb. I have been running it on my 17 camera system for several months with no issues!

I've started receiving the exact same issue in the last couple of weeks with my set up that had been running fine for around 3 months prior.

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?

Have you checked the resources the database server uses? Adding events means the database will need more resources such as innodb_buffer_pool_size.

Just noticed random crashes ('system stopped' - and no restart) started in the last couple of months... (ZM 1.30.4).
Was always running fine before.. I suspect some (???) linux component update (Centos 7)...

Have someone found a solution for this? I am seeing the same problem in my log. Updated som linux components yesterday so that is likely the problem.

Must be a bug in 1.30.4? I'm having this issue also, I had it a while back, then a ZM update came out and it was stable, then another ZM update came out and now I'm back to having it run between minutes and hours, then stopping. I can restart it from the WebUI (click "stopped", change state to "start", click "apply")

My setup (this is a VM dedicated to ZoneMinder):

In case anyone wants it, I set this up to help keep video going when ZoneMinder decides to crash. Definitely not a fix, but a usable workaround until things get fixed. Do the devs watch these threads? Are we better off just installing a newer version and trying our luck there?

Line in root crontab:
